Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including angels, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of heroes who will split off from the main group to begin their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

First, the group knows exactly where to go next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death started the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then cleared his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could help the party access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The healer turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Questers and Schemers parties.

Viewers can anticipate learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
