The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.
The ex-president was sentenced of plotting a government overthrow in the ninth month and given more than 27 years in incarceration, but he continued under confinement pending legal challenges.
Top Judicial Official Justice Moraes said the decision to arrest the 70-year-old politician was a preventative measure after fresh information emerged.
This included seeking to disable his electronic bracelet and a invitation to a supporters' gathering that could enable a possible escape.
Judicial Records Show Escape Risks
In a filing authorising the custody, Justice Moraes said intelligence from the centre monitoring Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the ex-president's "intention to break the tracking monitor to guarantee victory in his escape.
This, it said, would be assisted by the disorder caused by the demonstration called by his son.
His offspring, Flávio, who serves as a congressional representative, called for a gathering of his backers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday night.
His son wrote on digital networks on Friday: Do you plan to struggle for your nation, or observe everything from your smartphone there on your settee? I call on you to struggle with us."
He said the vigil would be so backers could "pray for his well-being and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our nation."
Embassy Asylum Concerns
Part of the judge's determination was the chance of the former president's transfer to foreign missions near the residence, considering that the investigations revealed a record of arranging to seek refuge through a consular facility", a declaration said.
The court filing emphasizes that the United States embassy in the federal district, Brazil's capital, is located around 8 miles from his dwelling.
International Reactions
The former president's legal troubles have generated frustration from fellow conservative nationalist United States President President Trump, leading him to impose a fifty percent tax on Brazilian product imports.
Bolsonaro is being kept in a federal law enforcement building in the capital and will have a detention review on the following day.
Latest Court Petitions
It was only on Friday that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the Top Court to allow him to fulfill his full incarceration period under home confinement, with digital surveillance.
They also requested that the former president be permitted to leave his home for healthcare, saying he needed ongoing care for lung conditions and other illnesses.
Background on Conviction
Bolsonaro was determined responsible of heading a scheme aimed at keeping him in power after he failed to win the presidential race to his left-wing rival, President Lula.
Top judicial officials said that he knew of a plot which involved plans to kill his opponent and his running partner, Geraldo Alckmin, and to arrest and execute Alexandre de Moraes - the Supreme Court justice who has been managing the former president's case.
The scheme was prevented because it didn't receive the backing of the military leaders. The current president was sworn in without issue on 1 January 2023.
But a week later, on January 8th, numerous his followers attacked and damaged official structures in the federal district, the capital city.
The law enforcement took action and around approximately 1,500 persons were detained.
The magistrates found that the protesters had been encouraged by him whose strategy, they said, was for the national armed forces to take action, bring back stability and reinstate his authority.
At the time, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the 27 years and three months sentence "absurdly excessive.
He was also prohibited from running for public office until twenty-sixty - eight years later after the end of his sentence.
The ex-leader called the legal proceedings a targeted investigation" and said it was designed to prevent him participating in the 2026 national vote.
